WHERE DO TRENDS START
Id like to do a Fashion 101 post about Trends and Forecasting. I am going to write two posts on Fashion trends, the first will focus on where trends come from, the second will be the fashion trend for Spring 2012.
One of the questions I often get is “Why do designers have the same ideas at the same time?” And by answering this I am sort of answering the question “Where do trends come from?”
Designers don’t all have the same ideas at the same time. Do they all come together and have a chat? No. In fact quite the opposite, designers are very secretive about what they do until after their runway show. They have the same ideas because they’re exposed to similar influences and they are looking for inspiration at the same time. The fashion industry is small and whether you are living in Paris, New York or London you are going to be exposed to similar influences as other designers.
Some designers go off to foreign countries to get inspired. Everyone is exposed to similar ideas and because designers are all trained the same way they tend to move in the same directions. It is really interesting to track trends through fashion, because you can usually tie trends to something visually exciting that impacted the designers at the time of their research: The Memoirs of a Geisha film came out and the following Spring Summer couture shows were filled with Japanese Kimonos. You never know where the next inspired trend idea will come from but rest assure it will come.
SPRING 2012 TRENDS
Spring is upon us and trying to incorporate all the new styles and colors can be overwhelming.
The best way to achieve this is to pick two colors from the season as a staple item i.e. a Sodalite blue
Linen cardigan paired with a Yellow cotton V-neck. These two items go a long way as you pair them with items in your wardrobe such as jeans and cotton shorts for the spring.
Spring 2012 is similar to the women’s palette; men’s hues take a bright approach.
YELLOW and ORANGE continue to make a statement and Brave Bold colors like
TANGERINE TANGO and SOLAR POWER are the perfect confidence boosters.
Combine these colors with SODALITE BLUE and you have a balanced look.
